Performance and fuel economy
A turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 349 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque is standard on all S5 variants. The engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro AWD system, which has been sport-tuned. 0-60 mph acceleration took between 4.3 and 4.5 seconds in MotorTrend testing of a rather more powerful which is 354-hp 2018 S5 Sportback.
The eight-speed automatic transmission is competent, but in Comfort mode, its tendency for second-gear starts exacerbates the engine's initial turbo lag and makes the S5 slow off the line. When you change the Drive Select switch from Comfort to Dynamic or Auto, the S5 Sportback comes to life, quickly leaving the line in first gear.
The interior design of the Audi S5
The cargo space behind the second-row seats in the S5 Sportback is 21.8 cubic feet or 35.0 cubic feet with those seats folded down. The S5 coupe has a trunk size of 10.9 cubic feet. The S5 cabriolet has a cargo capacity of only 7.3 cubic feet.
All S5 models have 41.3 inches of front-row legroom. The S5 has 39.4 inches of front-row headroom, while the coupe has 37.4 inches and the cabriolet has 40.0 inches. The Sportback has 35.1 inches of second-row legroom, 32.7 inches in the coupe, and 33.3 inches in the cabriolet. It also has 37.0 inches of second-row headroom, 36.1 inches in the coupe, and 36.3 inches in the cabriolet.
Smaller things such as phones and sunglasses have a limited storage room in the cabin, which is typical for the class.
